A word problem on ratio's

Topic: Ratio

A ratio is a comparison of two numbers. We generally separate the two
numbers in the ratio with a colon (:). Suppose we want to write the ratio
of 8 and 12.We can write this as 8:12 or as a fraction 8/12, and we say
the ratio is eight to twelve.

Let's see a word problem on this.

Question:-

Three schools are going to have a science fair in an auditorium.The amount of space given to each school is proportional to the number of students enrolled at each school.Malcom school has 600 students ,Kennedy school has 400 students and Hart school has 1000 students.Find the ratio that can share the auditorium accordingly.


Answer:-

Let's take the number of students in a form of a ratio


Malcom : Kennedy : Hart

600 400 1000

Divide by 100

600 400 1000
----- : ----- : ------
100 100 100


6 : 4 : 10

Divide by 2


6 4 10
--- : ---- : -----
2 2 2


3 : 2 : 5 (Answer)
